Column by Dr. Ann Hollingsworth
The best birthday present we could have for the United States was given to us last week as the Supreme Court overturned to Roe vs. Wade case of 1973 that has plagued our country since then. Regardless of what evil and liberals say, this return to honoring the right and freedom to live of every child conceived in our country is a step in the right direction.
Most of our country follows civil law which is based on following a code of law such as our Constitution versus case precedence. However, we do have some common law states such as Louisiana that follow the common law, which published judicial opinions dominate decisions. The recent Supreme Court decision fits both. It affirms the right to life given to us within our Constitution. It also provides judicial opinion at the highest level that can set precedence for other legal actions that return an allegiance to our founding fathers’ vision for our country.
It is my hope and prayer that we will see much more return to the God-given freedoms our country was birthed in. No doubt that this decision will provide a stark contrast to the beliefs and lifestyles of states and people in our country. Those states such as Mississippi which still believe in what our country was founded on will see the benefit of living to honor the freedoms of life. States that deny basic freedoms of life will continue to experience disaster and decline as many are now seeing.
As we pause to celebrate July 4th, a part of that celebration needs to be a remembrance that God is still in charge. He touched the heart of the justices to decide rightfully. He can move in our elections, our laws, and our everyday lives. “In God we trust” still needs to be a motto that our country lives by.
