Fans of Bluegrass music will want to mark their calendars for Saturday, October 26, 2019, when 10 hours of musical selections will be performed by several bands at Clarkco State Park near Quitman.
Four area bands have signed up to perform at the first-time event, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the boat-ramp pavilion.
Providing entertainment will be The Blue Grass Cartel of Meridian, The Long Creek Band of Quitman, Winky Hicks Band of Butler, Ala.; and The Pilgrims of Philadelphia.
Hosted by Friends of Clarkco Park, the event is already considered a success due to the overwhelming response by Bluegrass music lovers who reserved cabins and camping areas for the special event prior to Labor Day.
“We had a tremendous response when ‘Bluegrass in the Park’ was first publicized on our Facebook Page,” said Marsha Roberts, ‘Friends’ president. “All the cabins are full and we anticipate the Park will be full as well for this event, which is being held simply to get people to come to the Park and enjoy a full day of great music. Also remember to bring your lawn chairs.”
Roberts said concessions will be available for purchase beginning at 11 a.m. and throughout the day. Planned are barbecue plates, hamburgers, sausage dogs, hot dogs and drinks.
Admission to attend “Bluegrass in the Park” will be $6 per car up to four people, then 50 cents for each additional person.
A raffle is available to win a park bench. Raffle tickets are $2 each or six tickets for $5.
All food proceeds will be used for Park projects.
Other campgrounds and cabins are available at Archusa Creek Water Park, located about five miles from Clarkco State Park.
