The East Mississippi Regional Library system, which consist of Quitman, Stonewall, and Bay Springs Libraries, not only have books, magazines, dvd and VHS movies, computers, and other resources, but they provide other materials for those needing help.
The library has an array of materials that are available to disabled, blind or deaf patrons.
Direct Mail Large Print Books
EMRL offers a large print direct mail service to registered patrons of the Blind and Physically Handicapped Library Services Division (BPHLS). This service provides direct loan by mail of books published in large print in both paperback and hardback formats which contain a wide range of fiction, non-fiction and biographical titles.
Digital Talking-Book Players
Recorded materials loaned free by the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS) are available on digital talking -book cartridges and audiocassettes. Both require special equipment which is loaned free to eligible individuals and institutions.
Also available with the playback machines are accessories such as:
• amplifiers for hearing loss patrons
• headphones and pillow speakers for individuals confined to a bed
• breath switches for individuals with little or no use of their extremities
• extension levers for individuals who have manipulating the key controls.
• remote control units for individuals who are confined to bed or who have difficulty with mobility
• solar panel battery chargers for readers who do not have acess to electricity.
Descriptive videos and dvds
Descriptive videos are regular, commercial films which have been augmented with special narration which describes the action for people who have vsual impairments. As a descriptive video plays, it describes the visual elements of action, characters, locations, costumes, and sets to the viewer without interfering with the movie’s dialogue or sound effect.These are used with your regular video, dvd players and televisions.
The collection contains more than 1,486 VHS titles and 381 DVD titles and includes feature films in the classics, action and sci-fi genres, as well as movies for children.
NFB-Newsline
NFB-Newsline provides audio versions of daily newspapers using speech created by computers. Newspapers from throughout the United States cooperate with this service and send electronic text to the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) for processing and distribution. Access to this service is available 24-7 to anyone who is eligible to receive the library services.
