Michael Grace has partnered with Wayne Williams to go into the medical marijuana business. They were one of the first dispensaries to attain a license in Meridian and will be located at 1800 6th Street in Meridian.
While they have already obtained their license for the dispensary, there are multiple steps that the medical marijuana must go through before making it to the dispensary for purchase.
“It has to be grown in Mississippi, and it has to be tested to make sure it doesn’t have any pesticides or contaminates and has to be less than 30% for cannabis flower,” explained Grace. “When they do the testing, they’ll see how much CBD and THC and all the other different cannabinoids that are inside that particular strain and plant. When the customers use it, they’ll be able to see exactly what they’re getting.”
They hoped to have product available for their Grand Opening on November 1; however, circumstances beyond their control will prevent them from having the product until later in the year.
“After speaking to one of the first licensed cultivators in the state to have medical cannabis harvested, we anticipated that we would be open on November 1 with product available. It has come to our attention, however, that the only lab licensed in the state is still completing the required test method validation process. This is a rigorous and robust process that typically takes weeks to months for labs to complete,” informed Grace. “They assure us that they are making every effort to expedite this process, including voluntary night and weekend work performed by their science team in pursuit of completion. Once complete, they will notify us. While they cannot guarantee a specific readiness date, they firmly believe that it will be in late fourth quarter 2022.”
They still intend to open on November 1 by appointment only to assist others in completing the online application for a medical cannabis card. They intend to educate customers about the program and product in order to assist them in getting the best treatment.
