Grace “Pauline” Hunter, 92, of Quitman, Mississippi, peacefully entered the presence of the Lord on September 28, 2026.
Pauline was born in Clarke County, Mississippi, on January 8, 1934, to James Lee and Carrie Lee Perritt. She worked for more than 25 years at the Quitman Knitting Mill.
Pauline was a longtime and faithful member of Manassa Church of Quitman, where she sang in the choir. After moving to Quitman in 2004, Pauline attended First Baptist Church and later Calvary Baptist Church, both of Quitman. Her Christian faith guided the way she lived, the way she cared for others, and the way she loved her family and friends. Her heart was always open to anyone in need.
She loved gardening, taking great pride in her beautiful rose bushes, playing the piano and baking her beloved tea cakes, which were often requested by family and friends. She especially enjoyed sharing them with those who were sick or taking them along when she went to visit others, always finding a way to bring a little sweetness and comfort to those around her.
Besides her parents, Pauline was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Howard Carl Hunter, and sisters, Irma Mae Lane and Aline Perritt.
Pauline is survived by her son, Gary Dayle Maxie, and nieces Sharon (Rob) Luklan and Karen (Joe) Lane.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon at Wright’s Funeral Home in Quitman, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at noon at Wright’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Gary Morris officiating.
Her final resting place will be at Manassa Church Cemetery.
