Quitman School District’s lead nurse, Donnis Harris MSN, RN, NCSN, has accepted a new role on the Executive Committee of the Mississippi School Nurse Association (MSNA). She will serve a four year term as the MSNA representative on the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) Board of Directors.
In this new role, Donnis will attend two annual NASN Board of Directors meetings. The winter meeting, held in the Washington DC area, includes a trip to the Capitol to meet with MS legislators to discuss issues affecting the health of school children and the impact of school nurses. The second meeting precedes the NASN summer conference for school nurses. During each meeting, Donnis will participate in leadership trainings and in conducting the business of NASN. She will also work with other school nurses from across the nation to research and develop national policies, procedures, and position statements.
She has served as a Quitman School District school nurse since 2000, formerly as an ER nurse in the local hospital, and currently serves as adjunct faculty at Mississippi College School of Nursing. Donnis is also working with a faculty colleague to develop a certification prep course for Mississippi School Nurses preparing to become national board certified.
Here in Quitman, Donnis, known as “Nurse Harris,” is an active member of the community and First Baptist Church. She and her family have touched the lives of many community members.
