Herbert George Miller, 97, of Quitman, Mississippi, passed away on April 27, 2026, at Pine View Health and Rehabilitation.
He was born on August 15, 1928, to Herbert and Ethel (Hastings) Miller in Redlick, MS.
Herbert was the song director and Sunday school superintendent at Fayette Baptist Church for several years, as well as a deacon for 50 years. He was also a member and deacon at Harmony Baptist Church. Herbert was also a veteran. He helped lay out airfields in England during the Korean War. He was a civil engineer for 38 years. Herbert enjoyed tending and working his cattle, and he also enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting. Herbert was an avid Mississippi State fan and enjoyed watching any sport they played.
Herbert is survived by his sons, Stephen (Donna) Miller and Mark (Michelle) Miller; daughters, Susan McDonald and Sharon (Jim) Sanders; eight grandchildren, Christy (Lee) Lanaham, Darla (Alex) McDonald, Jessica (Eligh) Davis, Sam (Meghan) McDonald, Jr., Sarah Miller, Adam Miller, Scott Miller, and Jared (Natalie) Bruegger; and five great-grandchildren, Max Dean, Leo Dean, Rylan Saterkowski, Penelope Elwood, and Evangeline Lenahan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Henrietta Crowell Miller; father, Herbert George Miller, Sr.; mother, Ethel Miller; sister, Doris Miller Provenzano; brother, Karl Miller; and son-in-law, Samuel David McDonald, Sr.
Pallbearers will include Ashley Harris, Leon Shirley, Shane Harper, Greg Dedwylder, Timmy Ray Jones, and Doug Griffin.
Visitation will be held Saturday, May 2, 2026, 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at Harmony Baptist Church, Quitman, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, 10:00 a.m. at Harmony Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Irby and Rev. Josh Thrash officiating.
Burial will take place in the Cane Ridge Cemetery in Lorman, MS, on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 3:00 p.m.
