Few teachers join the field seeking lavish praise and recognition. Instead, the desire to do good for students and give back to communities drive teachers to embrace their profession. This is especially true for rural educators, who are often leaders in their community beyond the classroom. It is important to celebrate rural teachers making an impact.
Hoping to recognize teachers’ exemplary work, passion, and innovation, the Program of Research and Evaluation for Public Schools and NREA-affiliated Mississippi Rural Education Association (MSPREPS) host an annual Rural Teacher of the Year award. Through this program, the MSPREPS team spotlights one outstanding rural educator from each of Mississippi’s four Congressional Districts. The awardees are featured prominently at MSPREPS’s yearly conference, where the overall state winner is announced.
Amanda Reeves, Quitman High School teacher, has been chosen as the Congressional District 4 "Rural Teacher of the Year." She will be competing with the other Congressional winners for the overall "Mississippi Rural Teacher of the Year" later this month. Quitman High School and Quitman School District are honored to have so many hard-working teachers throughout the district, and we are especially proud to have Mrs. Reeves being recognized as being a leader in the field of education and making a difference in our community.
