Anyone who was born after January 1, 1972, is required to complete a hunter education course before they can purchase a Mississippi hunting license. Since July 1, 2000, it is now required that anyone twelve years old and under sixteen years old must have a certificate showing they have satisfactorily completed a hunter education course before they can hunt alone in the State of Mississippi. The only way a child that is at least twelve and under sixteen can hunt without having a certificate is if they are hunting in the presence or direct supervision of someone who is a licensed or exempt hunter that is at least 21 years old.
