A situation turned dangerous for law enforcement officers on Sunday, causing Sheriff Anthony Chancelor, Deputy Brad Schrimpshire, and suspect Brad Howell to all end up in the emergency room.
Officers responded to a call involving Howell creating a large disturbance in the community.
“On Sunday afternoon around 4:20, we got a call out on County Road 373 out from Enterprise that an individual was in his front yard throwing rocks at passing cars and trying to flag women down,” explained Sheriff Anthony Chancelor. “It was evident that the individual was under the influence of some sort of mind-altering chemical. He was being loud. He was cussing and creating a disturbance for the community. Deputies and I responded to the residence. Upon arrival, the individual in question, Brad Howell, was on the front porch yelling that he would kill me and he would kill the deputies and for us to get off of his property. He had already struck a vehicle with a large rock.”
The situation only progressed from there resulting in injuries.
“While trying to make contact with him to take him into custody, he tried to retreat inside his residence,” continued Chancelor. “We pursued, and an altercation took place inside the residence just inside the door. Ultimately, Deputy Brad Schrimpshire, the suspect, and I all made a visit to the ER.”
This violent arrest is a stark reminder of just how dangerous law enforcement is, and Chancelor appreciates his officers and the dedication they show despite the dangers they can face.
“This was a violent arrest, and ultimately it reminds us just how dangerous the law enforcement profession can be,” proclaimed Chancelor. “The silent majority in this county appreciate tough law enforcement, and ultimately, we are what stands between the general public and total anarchy. This was a reminder just how dangerous this job is and how much my deputies put their life on the line every single day. When they leave in the morning, they don’t know if they’re going to return that evening. I appreciate them, and I’m glad that our county appreciates them as well.”
After being evaluated in the emergency room, Chancelor, Schrimpshire, and Howell are all reported to be okay.
Howell is currently being held at the Clarke County Jail with charges pending.
