James Lavell Carmichael, 95, of Stonewall, Mississippi, passed away on April 14, 2025, at his residence.
He was born on February 2, 1930, to Cecil and Lula (Carlisle) Carmichael in Stonewall, MS.
Lavell was a longtime resident of Stonewall, MS, where he served on the Board of Alderman for several years. He was a member of Stonewall Baptist Church and was a Freemason and a Shriner. He was a troop leader for the Boy Scouts of America. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served at Caribou, Maine, for four years. He then returned home and married his high school sweetheart Billie. Lavell had a passionate love for the game of baseball, and he played with the Semi-Pro Team for the Air Force. In his final game against the Canadians, he hit the game winning home run in his last at-bat. He was an avid fisherman that loved spending his free time outdoors.
Lavell is survived by his son, Kris (Margaret) Carmichael; daughter, Allison Carmichael; grandson, Trent Brashier; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Stone Carmichael; mother, Lula Mae Carmichael; wife, Billie Virginia Carmichael; and brother, Aubrey R. "Cobb" Carmichael.
Visitation was held Thursday, April 17, 2025, 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at Wright's Funeral Home, Quitman, Mississippi.
Funeral services were held on Friday, April 18, 2025, 10:00 a.m. at the Wright's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ray Files and Kris Carmichael officiating.
Burial took place in the Stonewall Cemetery.
