A field of 25 teams – 100 players – comprised the Sixth annual Jones College Softball Golf Tournament fund-raiser Sept. 22 at Dixie Golf Club.
The team of Johnny Dobbs, Joseph Dobbs, Gentry Barton and Justin Holifield won the event by posting a 17-under 55. They tied the Community Bank team but won by a scorecard playoff.
The Humphries/Breazeale/Young/Barrett team won the first place with a 60 by a scorecard playoff over the Tomahawk Downhole LLC team. The MS Elite FastPitch team won the second flight with a 64.
Jay Comfort won closest to the pin on No. 8 and Jamie Eure won longest drive on No. 11.
Bobcat softball coach Tori Dew said the tournament provides funds to help the team offset travel expenses each year.
“This tournament will allow for our team to expand our travel and go play a wide variety of competition this spring,” she said. “During our spring trips, we will now have the ability to provide our players with several experiences that they will look back on as a great memory during their years at Jones. We always look forward to providing our players with a first-class experience.”
Dew credited the Dixie Golf Club staff with making the tournament a special day.
“It was a great day with beautiful weather on the golf course,” she said. “I would like to take the time to give a big thank you to Dixie Golf for having us out for our annual golf tournament. It is always a great place to play a round of golf and enjoy the beautiful course.”
Golfers were treated to sausage dogs and drinks during the round of play. A meal consisting of pulled pork, baked beans and potato salad was served after the round of play.
