Starting January 30, 2024, the Jones College Clarke County Center in Stonewall is hosting two amazing classes that the community can take part in to develop a career in the medical field: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Phlebotomy.
Each of the classes are scheduled to run parallel to each other on Monday through Thursdays, with the CNA classes starting at 9:00 a.m. and concluding at 1:00 p.m. followed by Phlebotomy starting at 1:00 p.m. and concluding at 3:00 p.m. This will allow people to take one or both classes if they would like.
For anyone thinking about becoming a nurse, the CNA course would be the perfect starting point.
“The Certified Nursing Assistant program is designed to help you learn the skills necessary to provide quality care,” explained Reggie Richardson, Dean of the Jones College Clarke County campus. “Our CNA training program makes it possible to embark on a rewarding and meaningful career that can make a difference to those in need. The program is made up of both classroom and clinical hours. Completion of this course will prepare students to sit for the NNAAP Exam.”
The Phlebotomy program is able to be taken individually or can be used to further the job possibilities with the CNA program.
“Our Phlebotomy program includes theory and hands-on learning, teaching both technical and procedural aspects of basic phlebotomy,” continued Richardson. “Students will use proper techniques and standard precautions to perform a variety of blood collection methods.”
The CNA program is a six-week course and costs $850; phlebotomy is a seven-week course and will cost $500. Each class requires a deposit at registration with the remaining balance broken down over the first three weeks of class.
In order to take either of the classes, a WorkKeys CRC score of Silver is required. WorkKeys CRC is used as an assessment to measure foundational skills required to be successful in the workplace. The Jones College campus in Stonewall offers CRC testing locally Monday through Friday. The cost of the test is $50 and can be scheduled with Jessica Wood by calling 601-477-4835.
In addition to the test score, each course also requires a background check, 10-panel drug screening, and a physical. Participants must be 18 years of age by the time of clinicals, which will be held the last week of class, in order to participate in the program.
The deadline to register for classes will be January 23, 2024.
