The Jr. Mafia of United Cheer and Dance of Quitman recently attended the D2 Summit in Walt Disney World Orlando, Florida, after receiving an invitation to the exclusive competition. The invitation was received at the Aloha New Orleans event while competing against various teams and reaching top score in their division.
"These athletes have worked all season for this outstanding achievement to be invited to this invitation only event. This is the Super Bowl of cheerleading. The United staff are so extremely proud of this team’s hard work,” proclaimed Alex Parker, coach and owner of United Cheer and Dance of Quitman. “The D2 Summit 2023 was outstanding for Jr. Mafia! We are so proud of these kiddos and all the hard work that they put into this season to get here, and they rocked the mat! Going to this competition is a huge deal in itself, and to see them kill it was an extremely proud moment for our staff! We love our Mafia!”
They represented well as they competed at Disney World and ended up finishing 24 out of 114 in the Junior Level 1 Division.
They have worked hard over the last year in order to be prepared to go to an event like this.
“They have had 4-8 hour practice weeks since June to gain the skills in preparation for the season and the ability to get this invitation,” explained Parker. “They won first place at Aloha New Orleans beating out all Junior/Senior teams from all different levels to gain this invitation with the highest point score.”
They have also won several other achievements along the way:
- 1st place Aloha New Orleans
- 1st place and Best Tumbling America’s Best WSA receiving a bid to The One
- 2nd place Aloha Biloxi
- 7th in Cheersport Nationals
- 2nd place NCA Birmingham
- Grand Champion and 1st place Deep South Spirit Birmingham Classic
