Column by Dr. Ann Hollingsworth
There seems to be more discussion about the end times today than ever before. With this discussion, there is also considerable contemplation of what that will involve. Will the Christians get raptured out of here and if so, will it be before, during, or after the Tribulation? Is the antichrist alive today and who might it be? When a person ceases to live on this earth, whether through rapture or death, what happens next? Is there really a Heaven and a Hell?
Regardless of what a person believes about all of this, each one of us will have a last day on earth. For those who are terminally ill, they may have a sense of when that is coming – but most of us don’t know. Since we don’t know, it could be good for us to live the way we would want to go out and do some things that we want to do before we go out. Thinking in this way can take us to what is really important in life versus all of that stuff we think we just have to do.
If we knew tomorrow was our last day here, a top priority would be to decide whether we were okay with leaving – if we believe in Heaven and Hell, are we ready to go to the good place of those two? How are our relationships with the important people in our lives? Is there any unfinished relationship business that we need to take care of?
What do we enjoy the most and who do we most enjoy it with? Going ahead and doing that could be a good choice. We do have responsibilities that we would need to go ahead and do, but the key thing is to put the first things of life in first place now – because we really don’t know when our last day will be.
