I see where the new owner of the old trailer park is trying to rezone that property. I also understand that the pole plant is very interested in the property if they can get it rezoned. I actually have concerns as to whether the previous rezoning was done properly?
If it was not done properly, it needs to be restored to their previous zoning designations before anything else is done.
I am aware that the city was afraid of a repeat performance with another trailer park. Quite frankly I can’t say that I blame them. Now we have a different situation. Like with a trailer park, this will bring a decent increase in the City’s tax revenue which will enable us to pay off our debt sooner. It will apparently make our newest employer happy given that they are already there. I believe this is a win-win for all parties.
Currently Quitman needs to do whatever we can to attract jobs in both industrial and retail sectors. We also need to take care of our current residents. I am not pointing any fingers in this, but we need to keep the safety and well-being of all residents in mind. We need to be more diligent in our efforts to regrow our little town. It should make no difference to the city whether a manufacturer is located within the city limits or not.
