Dear Editor,
Our area U.S. Representative, Michael Guest, has shown his preference for party over principle and the rule of law in voting against issuing a criminal referral to the Department of Justice for Steve Bannon's contempt of Congress. Bannon defiantly refused to comply with a lawful subpoena to testify before the January 6 insurrection investigation committee of Congress.
Representative Guest cannot honestly stand before the public in the future and claim that he is honoring his oath to uphold the constitution when he has thumbed his nose at our democracy and nation by refusing to support the investigation of the diabolical plot by the parties responsible for the deadly attack on Congress and our American democracy last January 6.
Which begs the question: Why? What is he afraid of? Why does he not want the American people to know the truth behind this attack? Only guilty people do not want investigations. So what is he hiding? Is he complicit? What is he covering up?
He also voted against the censure of Paul Gosar for posting a vile, threatening anime about his wish to kill another member of Congress, a woman and a person of color. So apparently Guest is fine with violence against women. Why else would he not denounce or vote for the censure of someone who threatens violence? Has anybody checked on his wife lately?
On another note, you know all those $300/child deposits to your accounts you've been getting? Guest voted against that. He also voted against the Covid rescue plan and the $1400 checks we all got this summer. He also voted against the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill that will go so far to fix our crumbling roads and bridges and water and sewer systems in this state. Apparently, he doesn't want his constituents to have decent things. He wants to keep us poor and hungry and ignorant. Easier to control us that way, he thinks.
Guest does not represent the people of Mississippi at all and needs to be voted out next year. Let's get somebody in Congress who will fight for us, not against us.
