It would benefit the City of Quitman of becoming wet and benefit the whole county wet. Other counties are benefitting off of Clarke County from Lauderdale, Jasper, Wayne and Jones counties. Taking money that could be ours. Probably about 70% of Clarke County residents drink beer, whiskey or wine. Clarke County has been dry for many of years. You can go and sit up at these stores that sell beer, whiskey and wine and see just how many Clarke County tags you will see. You would be amazed of just sitting inside a store that sells liquor and see who all comes in and buys it. When they come out of the store, some will hide their liquor by placing it in the tool box, in the trunk or covering with something on the floorboard. Each time you buy beer, whiskey and wine and cross back into Clarke County, you have just broken the law. How many Clarke County people do this daily of breaking the law?
We need to stop giving other counties our money. Clarke County is just as wet as Lauderdale, Jasper, Wayne and Jones.
This question is for the board of supervisors. Why are there no signs anywhere to indicate that Clarke County is dry? We have signs up for everything else but that? To me, that is just entrapment for not having proper indication of letting people know this is a dry county and I think if a person gets a good lawyer, they could beat it in court of being arrested in Clarke County.
I don’t drink but if I did and got arrested with beer, wine or whiskey, I would fight it for that reason.
Next time you get arrested, bring this up to the judge that there is no indication of Clarke County being a dry county and you are requesting a jury to see if you are guilty or not because of this.
