What a great day to be a Panther as the Panthers took down county rival Enterprise in an epic game that will be talked about for many years to come.
The Panthers trailed early 2-0 before scoring three runs in the top of the second and added four more runs to lead 7-2 until the bottom of the sixth inning when Enterprise scored seven runs to take a 9-7 lead into the top of the seventh.
The Panthers never blinked and with the relentless never give up attitude was down to its last at bat when Robert Powe lead off with a single and the next two batters were out.
With two outs already, Jordan Blakely and Kendan Allen both walked, loading the bases. After a pitching change, Jaleil Cameron drew a walk, allowing Powe to walk in and bring the score to 9-8.
Then, with a 0-2 count, Patten Shirley delivered a base clearing double to give the Panthers back the lead 11-9.
In the bottom of the seventh, Enterprise loaded the bases with two outs. After battling, Shirley was able to get a ground ball to second baseman Braylon Peters to end the game.
“I couldn’t be prouder for the fight this group had. They never gave up and never gave in,” proclaimed Coach Eric Johnson. “With the schedule we play and the classification in 4A being what it is, these guys have been battle tested these last two years. Patten Shirley had ice in his veins and the last two years has lived for these moments. To know where the program was when we got here to seeing this senior group walk out of here with the most wins in program history with 36 in two years shows what believing and trusting each other and buying into the process everyday is the most rewarding as a coach.”
Both teams put in an outstanding effort and played a game that will always be remembered.
