Annie Ruth McDonald, 91, of Quitman, Mississippi, passed away on June 23, 2024, at her residence.
She was born on September 7, 1932, to Vernon and Lucille (Sinclair) Thomas in Quitman, MS.
Ruth attended Jones County Junior College where she loved playing basketball for the Bobcats. After Jones, she attended the University of Southern Mississippi and later Miami University where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Education. After college she married her husband Tom McDonald, of 46 years, and they moved to Middletown, Ohio; then, they returned to Mississippi and settled down and raised their five sons. She was a loving wife and mother and a doting grandmother. She was a member of the Harmony Baptist Church family, and she served as a substitute/teacher assistant for many years in the Quitman School District. She enjoyed reading, painting, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends.
Ruth is survived by her five sons, Tom McDonald, David (Susan) McDonald, Mark (Marla) McDonald, Don (Shem) McDonald, and Roger McDonald; 10 grandchildren, Lauren (David) Cashio, Erin (Jay) Bonck, Brooke (Kameron) Kuczka, Christy (Lee) Lenahan, Darla (Alessandro Campo) McDonald, Sam (Meghan)McDonald, Alexandria McDonald, Sean (Morgan) McDonald, Seth (Abby) McDonald, and Hayden (Chandler) Darnell; 15 great-grandchildren, Josh Cashio, Matt Cashio, Jackson Cashio, Amanda Gildersleeve, Emily McDonald, Jeremy Bonck, Ada Kuczka, Margot Kuczka, Max Dean, Leo Dean, EV Lenahan, Penelope Elwood, Blake McDonald, Baylie McDonald, Brooks McDonald; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Thomas; mother, Lucille Thomas; husband, Thomas Warren McDonald; granddaughter, Hayley Dean; and three brothers, John D. Thomas, Charles V. Thomas, and Jack S. Thomas.
Ruth's sons and grandsons will be serving as her pallbearers.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 27, 2024, after 9:30 a.m. at Wright's Funeral Home, Quitman, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2024, 11:30 a.m. at the Wright's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Bolton officiating.
Burial will take place in the Harmony Cemetery.
