Bennett "Gale" Mitchell was born October 30, 1943, in Meridian, MS, and died at his home April 16, 2024, after a battle with cancer.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Lynn; parents, Dorothy Mitchell Pierce and his father, Louie Mitchell; maternal grandparents, Allen and Myrtle (Booker) Carmichael; and paternal grandparents, Philip and Bessie (McMichael) Mitchell.
Gale is survived by two sisters, Nadine Carmichael, Ocean Springs, MS and Cynthia Gust, Ocala, Florida; and his uncle, Dean Carmichael of Bay St. Louis, MS. He is also survived by many special cousins and friends.
Although he had polio as a child and lived with a partially paralyzed arm and hand, he worked and was independent, never asking for assistance of any kind. He worked thirty-four years until he was forced to retire because of his health. If you knew him, you knew he was honest and truthful. If he told you something, you knew there was no reason to question it because it would not change. Gale was a master at buying and selling anything from cars to antique furniture. After retirement, he repaired and refinished antiques. He could take a piece of furniture that was falling apart and restore it to its original condition.
A special thank you goes to the nurses and staff of Accent Care Hospice and wonderful neighbors who cared for him during his illness.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Manassa Cemetery.
