Bessie Dell Speed, 85, of Enterprise, Mississippi, passed away on May 4, 2024, at her residence.
She was born on July 3, 1938, to Robert and Mary (Ford) Hobbs in Enterprise, MS.
Bessie was a graduate of Enterprise High School and a longtime member of Enterprise Baptist Church. She served as a member of the Enterprise Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Service for over 30 years. She retired from Anderson Regional Medical Center after 25 plus years of service.
Bessie is survived by her daughter, Jaquita Jordan; three sons, Joel (Joan) Speed, Dewayne Speed, and Bob Speed; 12 grandchildren, Chelsea (Spence) Baucum, Katlyn Jordan, Britney (Randy) Horn, Abe (Stephanie) Speed, Rance Speed, Charly (Andy) Phillips, Amber (Corbitt) Boggan, Brittany Chatham, Brandon (Sarah) Speed, Laura (Tony) Peebles, Carmen (Adam) Harper, and Kyle (Wendy) Porter; 29 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Shannon Rutledge; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Earl and Pauline Hobbs; husband, Charles Alvin Speed; and a brother, Robert Floyd "Bubba" Hobbs.
Pallbearers are Rance Speed, Andy Phillips, Barry White, Spence Baucum, Corbitt Boggan, Anthony Chancelor, and Randy Freeman. Honorary Pallbearers are Adam Harper, Tony Peebles, Brandon Speed, Kyle Porter, and Abe Speed.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2024, after 10:00 a.m. at Enterprise Baptist Church, Enterprise, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Enterprise Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Cothern and Rev. Evan Akins officiating.
Burial will take place in the Enterprise Cemetery.
