Beverly Ann Doggett, 77, of Quitman, Mississippi, passed away on June 29, 2024, at St. Dominic's Hospital in Jackson, MS.
She was born on August 16, 1946, to James Haskell and Katie Ruth (Dobbins) Doggett in Quitman, MS.
Beverly moved with her family to the West Coast as a small child for her father's work for Georgia Pacific. The family lived in Washington, Oregon, and Northern California before settling in Ramona, California, where she attended Ramona High School. Her family moved back to Quitman during her senior year of high school, where she graduated from Quitman High School. She always fondly remembered her youth spent in California and was able to return to Ramona in 2014 for her 50th anniversary class reunion. After high school, she began a family of her own and eventually went to work as a secretary for the Clarke County Sheriff's Department where she worked under three sheriffs. She enjoyed playing the piano in her church and at home on a piano that her father bought her when she was a young child. She was an active member in her church and sang in the choir with her church family. Sunday was her favorite day of the week to attend church and spend the day with her family. She loved planting flowers, baking desserts, decorating for Christmas, spending time with her family, shopping with her daughter, and playing with her two great-grandchildren, who were the joy of her life.
Beverly was preceded in death by her (former spouse) and the father of children, Cecil Lamar Smith, Sr.; and parents, James Haskell and Katie Ruth (Dobbins) Doggett.
Beverly is survived by her two children, Cecil Lamar Smith, Jr. (Claudean) Smith of Quitman, and daughter, Carla Smith-Fortenberry (Brent) of Meridian; her grandchildren: Justin Smith, Joshua "Smitty" Smith (Katelin); great-grandchildren, Ezra Smith, Hazel Smith. "Roscoe" Doggett, Sandra Doggett, Miriam Boykin (Lavelle) and brother-in-law Lavelle Smith of Quitman; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and numerous special friends.
