Doris Evelyn Johnson Lewis peacefully passed into her eternal home Friday morning, December 1, 2023.
Doris was born January 7, 1944, to Lee and Ava Ruth Belcher Johnson. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a friend to all who knew her. Some of the best memories we have together are shopping and eating Sunday dinners together. She enjoyed spending time outdoors on the family farm, helping with chores, and tending to cattle. Rea Shaw Giffin & Stuart is where she worked for over 30 years before her retirement. Even after retirement, she visited frequently to see her coworkers, who she considered dear friends. She was a devoted member of New Hope Baptist Church for over 50 years.
Doris is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Donald Lewis; her daughter, DeNay (Shawn) Farrar; granddaughters, Bailey (Ross) Dial, Jordan (Bo) Gressett and Carlee Farrar; great grandchildren, M.E. and Lennon Dial and Zaidee Gressett; her brother, Glenn (Joyce) Johnson; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Ava Johnson; her sisters Mada Boutwell, Lena Quates, Grace Wardlow and Ruth Hause; her brother, Elerie Johnson; and granddaughter, Bethany Lynn Price.
Services were held Sunday, December 3, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Goodman officiating. The family received guests from 2-3 p.m. prior to the service.
Pallbearers were Ross Dial, Larry Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Randall Johnson, Greg Chatham and Terry Williams. Honorary pallbearers were the Dot Martin and Pat Martin Sunday School classes.
