Doris Sowers, 94, of Quitman, Mississippi, passed away on October 29, 2022, at her residence.
She was born on July 19, 1928, to William and Ethel (Irby) Galyean in Lauderdale County, MS.
Doris was a longtime resident at Clarkco State Park, where her husband served as park manager for over 25 years. She was retired from H. C. Watkins Hospital where she worked for over 45 years.
Doris is survived by four daughters, Beth (Pat) Jordan, Beverly Ferguson, Betsy Mathews, and Belinda Sowers; nine grandchildren, Alicia (Darren) McGee, Amie (Ben) Baxley, Anna Kuntz, Abe Doggett, Allyn (Matthew) Swain, Laurie Jones, Claire (Will) Thames, Amber (Frank) Eddins, and Jamey Jordan; 15 great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Abner "Tince" Galyean; mother, Ethel Irby Galyean; husband, John Henry Sowers, Jr.; brother, William Aubrey Galyean; three sisters, Elsie Harbour, Zelma Fink and Rita McCanlis.
Visitation was held Monday, October 31, 2022, after 1:00 p.m. at Rolling Creek Baptist Church, Quitman.
Funeral services were held on Monday, October 31, 2:00 p.m. at the Rolling Creek Baptist Church with Dr. Dan Lanier and Rev. Greg Mangum officiating.
Burial took place in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
