Funeral services for Eva Jewel Lafferty Smith, age 87, of Gilbertown, AL, were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Shady Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church in Quitman, MS, with Reverend Glenn Lafferty and Reverend Travis McManus officiating. Visitation was held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2024, at the church. Interment followed the service in the Shady Grove Cemetery in Quitman, MS.
Ms. Smith was born June 10, 1936, in Clarke County, MS, to William and Mary Lafferty. She passed away Thursday, May 30, 2024, at her residence in Gilbertown, AL.
Ms. Eva Jewel loved her family and enjoyed cooking for them. She also enjoyed working in her flower garden and helping others.
She is survived by her son, James Troyce Smith (Beverly) of Gilbertown, AL, and grandson, James Jacob Smith of Gilbertown, AL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Franklin Smith; father, William Oscar “Bill” Lafferty; mother, Mary Johnson Lafferty; brothers, Buddy Lafferty, Joe Lafferty, David Lafferty, Harold Lafferty, and Calvin Lafferty; and sister, Joyce Irwin.
Serving as pallbearers were Walter Lafferty, Andy Lafferty, Scotty Lucas, Jacob Smith, Stevie Connor, and Keith Roberts.
