Floyd “Curl” McCarra was born September 8, 1939, to Floyd A. McCarra and Ola Hayes McCarra. He lived most of his life in Clarke County, and he passed away November 23, 2024, after an extended illness.
Floyd was an avid outdoorsman who loved to play golf, hunt, fish, farm and garden. He shared his love of these things with his family and friends and had many colorful stories to tell of all his adventures. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He delighted in his grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved to spend time teaching them how to hunt and fish and watching their ball games. He was a long-time member of Coopers Chapel Church where he sang in the choir and was very involved with building projects. He worked for 40 years at Georgia-Pacific as an electrician and instruments mechanic. He was a Master Mason at the Terral Masonic Lodge.
Floyd loved the Lord, and he loved people. He will be greatly missed here, but it gives us peace to know that we will see him again in Heaven.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Roslyn H. McCarra; three daughters, Sandy (Eric) O'Neil, Kellie (Henry) Cook, and Connie (Sean) Ferguson; two step-sons, Troy (Amy) Dew and Chris (Kim) Dew; step-daughter, Cindy (Dudley) Bonner; 11 grandchildren, Ryan Cook, Joseph (Natasha) Cook, Kara (Ford) Gordon, Sydney Ferguson, Seth Cook, Luke Ferguson, Zack O'Neil, Kate Ferguson, Sean O'Neil, Claire (Wyatt) Whigham, and Will Ferguson; eight step-grandchildren, Kristopher Dew, Kyle (Jessie) Dew, Brooke (Bryce) Branning, Tori Dew, Brandon (Lillie) Dew, Haley (Allen) Stinson, Hunter Bonner, and Danielle (Derrick) Smith; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Rodney McCarra and Cletis McCarra; three sisters, Nina (Charles) Boswell, Lucille (Robert) Dearman, and Faye McCarra; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd A. McCarra; mother, Ola L. McCarra; first wife, Faye Dearman McCarra; three brothers, Ralph McCarra, Bernice "Bunk" McCarra, and Prentiss McCarra; and two sisters, Agnes Broadhead and Jewel Boozer.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 29, 2024, 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at Cooper's Chapel Church, Quitman, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 29, 2024, 10:00 a.m. at Cooper's Chapel Church with Rev. Wesley Pepper officiating.
Burial will take place in the Cooper's Chapel Church Cemetery.
