Gilford Fortner Dabbs III, 81, of Quitman, Mississippi, passed away on May 12, 2023, at Symphony Assisted Living and Memory Care in Franklin, TN (where his youngest daughter lives).
He was born on April 14,1942, to G. F. "Sporty" Dabbs Jr. and Sarah Jo (Kelly) Dabbs, and grew up in Quitman, Mississippi. He was an alumni of the University of Mississippi (undergraduate and Law School). He practiced law with his father, G.F. “Sporty” Dabbs, Jr., at Riddell and Dabbs Law Firm in Quitman, then later with David Donnell at Dabbs and Donnell Law Firm for many years.
Gilford is survived by his wife, Ruth Dabbs; three daughters, Amy (Lamar) Armstrong, Christy (Greg) Johnson, Renee (Andrew) Matthews; nine grandchildren; and brother, Kelly (Debbye) Dabbs.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gilford Fortner Dabbs, Jr. and mother, Sarah Jo Dabbs.
Pallbearers were Fred Blackledge, James Morgan, Scotty Daniels, Phil Nichols, George C. "Buddy" Williams, Glenn Cochran, Terry Bonner, and David Donnell.
Visitation was held Monday, May 15, 2023, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church (Quitman), Quitman, Mississippi.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 15, 2023, 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church (Quitman) with Dr. Gene Neal officiating.
Burial took place in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
