Mrs. Irma Taylor, a very special lady and the matriarch of our family, passed away December 1st at her home in Soso, MS. She was 95 years old.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Jack H. Taylor, Sr.; her daughter, Barbara Elaine Holifield; her granddaughter, Lacy Hosey; as well as her parents, Artie Lawson and Alice Freeman Lawson, and her brothers Freeman Lawson and Elvin Lawson.
Irma was born on January 20, 1928, and was a lifelong resident of Mississippi, having spent her first 35 years in Clarke County, Enterprise, MS, and the remaining years in Jones County, Laurel, MS.
She was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church in Enterprise and later Trinity Baptist Church in Laurel.
Many will remember Irma from her years (30+) at the Baldwin Dental Office in Laurel, MS.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Hosey and husband, Ricky; her son, Jack H. Taylor, Jr. (Jackie) and wife Teresa, both of Soso, MS; and her son-in-law Dale Holifield of Gallatin, Missouri.
She was so proud of her eight grandchildren: Jason Hosey and wife Beth (Madison, MS), Dana Greenleaf and husband Joseph (Kyle, TX), Chad Hosey and wife Jenni (Clinton, MS), Tonya Farris and husband Tom (McHenry, MS), Chris Holifield and wife Brandi (Cameron, MO), Tiffany Taylor (Laurel, MS), Shawn Taylor and wife Sarah (Foxworth, MS), and Brianna Jalalzadeh and husband Arthur (Mobile, AL).
Her sixteen great-grandchildren were her heart: Jax Taylor and Harper Pickering; and Kinsley, Aria, and Maddox Jalalzadeh; and Reid and Myers Taylor; and Dillon and Luke Doug`et; and Hunter and Jackson Holifield, and Caroline, Olivia and Elizabeth Hosey; and Hannah Gardner; and Emmett Greenleaf.
She leaves her nieces and nephews: Patricia Lindsey (Enterprise, MS), Ken Taylor (California), Charlotte Lawson (Florida), Terry Lawson and Jamie Lawson (Michigan), and Tommy Taylor (Ellisville, MS).
She had many other special cousins, nieces and nephews, and wonderful family members acquired through marriage, and numerous good friends.
Visitation was from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., December 4, 2023, at Wright's Funeral Home, Quitman, Mississippi, followed by graveside services at 1:00 p.m. at Pine Hill Cemetery in Enterprise, MS, with Rev. Ricky Carlisle officiating.
Pallbearers were Chris Holifield, Shawn Taylor, Jason Hosey, Chad Hosey, Dillon Doug`et, Luke Doug`et, Jackson Holifield, and Joseph Greenleaf.
