Funeral services for John Houston “Johnny” Hunter, Jr., of Quitman, MS, were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 13, 2024, at Pleasant Ridge Pentecostal Holiness Church in Quitman, MS, with Reverend Chance Walley, Reverend Michael Smith, and Reverend Dennis Kennedy officiating. Interment followed in the Harmony Cemetery in Quitman, MS.
Mr. Hunter was born January 3, 1953, in Meridian, MS. He passed away Monday, September 9, 2024, at Regency Hospital in Meridian, MS, at the age of 71.
Johnny was a man that never met a stranger. This was good because he worked as a counter man at Napa and Advance Auto Parts stores over the years. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. His family says he was a gourmet chef on the grill and liked to cook for friends and family. His preference in music was Southern Gospel singing.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Voncile Jimerson Hunter of Quitman, MS; daughter, Ashley Rickles (Casey) of Meridian, MS; sons, Darrick Busby (Tina) of Gilbertown, AL, and Yancey Busby (Shannon) of Alberta, AL; mother, Patsy Jean McMillan Hunter of Quitman, MS; sister, Farris Smith (Mickey) of Quitman, MS; grandchildren, Chase Busby (Vanessa), Chloe Lolley (Chandler), and Avie Busby; and great grandchild, Caiden Brooks Lolley.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Houston “Bud” Hunter, Sr.
Serving as pallbearers were Scott Dedwylder, Jody Combest, Kenny Mosley, Jeff Hunter, Randy Rich, and Ronnie Robinson. Honorary pallbearers were Steve Glass, Richard Tindle, Joey Mosley, Carl Hunter, Ike Jimerson, Carley Dearman, and Gary Smith.
