Lois C. Hales, 97, of Quitman, Mississippi, passed away on February 12, 2022, at her residence.
She was born on September 24, 1924, to John and Minnie (Henley) Chancelor in Noxabee County, MS.
The third of seven children, Lois Chancelor developed a strong work ethic at an early age on the family farm, and with her husband, Pat, began their own farm and family in the Rolling Creek Community where they both developed a strong faith commitment to God, and served Him through the Rolling Creek Baptist Church.
After the death of her husband in 1964, Lois continued to farm and work at various jobs to provide for her family. Her faith in God’s divine provision never wavered as she worked diligently to train her seven children to continue the legacy of diligent work and faithful service to her God.
While Lois enjoyed traveling and seldom missed an opportunity to join family members on treks across the country, and while she genuinely hurt for and tried to help those around the community who were going through difficulties; her greatest earthly sense of enjoyment and fulfillment was found in her large extended family, and the frequent gatherings of siblings, cousins, in-laws, children, and grandchildren. Her loving welcome of the marriage partners her children and grandchildren chose likewise endeared her to them.
Lois was widely admired as one who never allowed the circumstances of life to deter her from following the path she believed God had laid out for her, and continuing in prayer and faithfulness, she fervently hoped that her entire family would come to know Christ personally.
As the end of her earthly walk drew near, she embraced the hope that she soon would see her Savior, and the turned down pages of her large print Bible are testimony to the fact that she found her ultimate joy and hope in God’s Word.
Lois is survived by her four daughters, Diane Hales (Mike) Rasberry, Elaine Riddle, Janice (Joe) Cooley, and Patricia (Oscar) Feliciano; two sons, Randy (Darlene) Hales and Ted Hales, son-in-law, Michael Campbell; four sisters-in-law, Dosha Mullen, Ouida M. Chancelor, Clovis Chancelor and Kathryn Chancelor; 22 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Howard Chancelor; mother, Minnie Lee Chancelor; husband, Pat Wilson Hales; daughter, Robin Campbell; daughter-in-law, Sharon Hales; grandson, Kevin Daniel Rasberry; granddaughter, Deanna Rasberry; great granddaughter, Dena Reid; great grandson, Christian Tucker; two sisters, Earsell Boone and Margurette Driskill; four brothers, Wesley Chancelor, Van Chancelor, Ancil Chancelor and Lamar Chancelor.
