Margie Ree Brock Slay of Quitman, Mississippi, passed away on March 13, 2024, at Wisteria Manor Personal Care Home.
She was a resident of Wisteria Manor since 2019. She was born 91 years ago on February 01, 1933, to Elbert and Maudie Boykin Brock in Clarke County, MS. She was a devoted wife to Wesley Wyatt Slay for over 65 years and supported him in his ministry for over forty years that he served as a Baptist minister in several churches in MS and AL. They were members of Elim Baptist Church. She enjoyed employment in several positions, but especially with Depositors Savings and Loan, Watkins Hospital, and with Ms. Evie Harris, Clarke County Circuit Clerk. Margie enjoyed gardening, sewing, especially crocheting, and was an avid reader about health, medicine, legal and tax issues. She and Wesley traveled frugally and extensively throughout the United States and western Canada.
She is survived by her four children, Judy Marie (Robert) Smith, Richard Wesley (Martha) Slay, Debora Nanette Williams and Jerry Benton (Elise) Slay; five grandchildren, Richard Wesley "Wes" (Lindley) Slay, Jr., Jennifer Nanette Tindle, Holly Renea Williams (Richard) Jenkins, Chelsi Elise Slay and Clancy Rose Slay; and twelve great-grandchildren, Kira Fleming (Trey) Whitehead, Kelsey Renae Fleming, Kristin Rose Fleming, Phillippa Frances "Pipa" Powers, Hannah Katie Powers, Ginger Drew Powers, Raymond Wesley Powers, Wyatt Randall Slay, Abigail Rose "Abby" Slay, Easton Keith Jenkins, Weston Ray Jenkins and Bennett Lane Fuller.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Patricia Mae Slay; her grandson, Jarod Anthony Fleming; her granddaughter, Heather Ree Slay (Powers); her son-in-law, Willie Ray Williams; and her sisters, Justine Brock Godwin and Olean Brock Whitt.
Graveside services were held at Elim Baptist Church Cemetery on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Dennis Coats and Rev. Michael Boutwell officiating.
