Congratulations to QHS senior Jalen Nixon! Jalen was 1 of 4 winners of the Mississippi School Board Association essay contest. The essay topic was “Is dependence on technology making the human race less intelligent?” Jalen presented his essay at the MSBA conference in Jackson, MS, February 23. There were 24 applicants, and only one winner was selected from each of the four congressional districts. Jalen was selected for District 3. Each winner received a $1000 check from MSBA, and Scholastic also gave each winner a $200 gift card.
Superintendent Dr. Minnie Dace and board members Brenda McCormick and Cheryl Waltman were in attendance for the conference. Jalen’s parents, Scott and Sabrina Nixon, were present for the essay presentation and awards. Jalen represented QSD well and made those in attendance very proud.
