A high-speed car chase that began in Hattiesburg on the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 5, led law enforcement on a pursuit through several counties before concluding in Newton County. The incident unfolded after reports of a stolen vehicle by an unnamed tracking company, and involved a series of highways and multiple law enforcement agencies.
According to Newton County Sheriff Joedy Pennington, the chase commenced in Jasper County, taking off from Highway 503 before proceeding along Highway 504 and then Highway 15, eventually reaching Newton. Once in Newton, the driver maneuvered through the area before officials were able to disable the vehicle by spiking its tires. The chase came to a halt on the 1600 block of Lawrence Bethel Road. Afterwards, the suspects attempted to flee on foot, but were apprehended.
Multiple law enforcement agencies collaborated to bring the situation under control. Sheriff Pennington confirmed that the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, Newton Police Department, Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, Clarke County Sheriff’s Department, Mississippi Highway Patrol, and the Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division (CTED) all assisted in the operation.
Two male suspects were taken into custody following the incident. Further details on the suspects’ identities or the charges they may face were not immediately available.
