Henry Ernest Elam Jr., 92, of Quitman, Mississippi, passed away on September 26, 2021, at H. C. Watkins Memorial Hospital.
He was born on March 8, 1929, to Henry and Mattie (Mosley) Elam in Meridian, MS.
He was a retired veteran of the United States Air Force that served during the Korean War. He also retired from the Air National Guard after his service in the Air Force. He was a grocery store owner and manager of Elam Village Grocery. He was a longtime member of Harmony Baptist Church.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather that loved spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed laughing, joking and fellowshipping with all his friends and fellow church members in the community.
Henry is survived by his wife, Connie Gayle Elam; son, William David "Bill" (Sarah) Elam; daughter, Connie Esther Patterson; son, Henry Ernest (Sherry Phelps) Elam, III; five grandchildren, David (Rachel) Patterson, Lauren Davis, Eric (Tina) Patterson, Chase (Jennifer) Elam, and Alison (Billy Jack) Elam White; five great-grandchildren, Gabe Patterson, Alex Patterson, Naomi Eve Ziebell, Reese Davis, and Amber Elam.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Ernest Elam, Sr.; mother, Mattie Ruth Elam; grandson, Scott Harrison Elam; son-in-law, James Steven Patterson; and two sisters.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 30, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at Harmony Baptist Church, Quitman, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2021, 11:00 a.m. at the Harmony Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Irby officiating.
Burial will take place in the McGowan's Chapel Cemetery.
