ORDINANCE #385
AN ORDINANCE TO CREATE THE QUITMAN HISTORIC DISTRICT, AND TO ESTABLISH THE MANAGEMENT OF THE SAID DISTRICT
Be it ordained by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Quitman, Mississippi.
SECTION 1. That the Quitman Historic Preservation Commission’s recommendations for the boundaries of the Quitman Historic District be adopted as contained in the following description:
All properties located in the area located along North Jackson from Anderson Street to South Jackson to the First Baptist Church Property stopping on the East side of that property and continuing to the West side of South Jackson the East Franklin Street. Including the two continuing to Ferrell Avenue including the Benjamin Carter house which is currently owned by Al and Sylvia Vowell. From that point proceeding north to Water Street to include all of Kirkland north of East Franklin all of Glynn Avenue and down Water Street to include all of Kirkland Avenue South to Sanders Avenue and proceeding North to include Railroad Avenue, Main Street, West Church Street up to Archusa Avenue. Proceeding north on Archusa to Long Boulevard and going East until you reach North Jackson.
And, furthermore, that the said section of the City of Quitman herein described, be designated as the Quitman Historic District.
SECTION 2. That the Quitman Historic District shall be under the management of the Quitman Historic Preservation Commission and that said District shall be governed under the regulations of the Ordinance created by the City of Quitman for the establishment of the Quitman Historic Preservation Commission, that the same said Ordinance contained on pages 1156 of Volume 32 of the Book of Minutes of the City of Quitman and enacted on the 2nd day of March in the year of 2021.
SECTION 3. That this ordinance shall take effect and be in force thirty (30) days from after its passage as provided by law.
