Week 9
In SEC play, Alabama showed why they are the best team in college football with an impressive performance against Texas A&M. Other winners were LSU, Kentucky and Auburn in league play while Vanderbilt and South Carolina won over non-league foes.
The take from week 8
Alabama is pretty darn good. So after the two-thirds point of the season, we are down to only one perfect SEC team.
The most exciting game had to be the Kentucky win over Mississippi State. The Bulldogs could not hold on to a one-point lead in the final minute of the game, losing to Kentucky. The Bulldogs had taken a 38-37 lead on a TD pass to Fred Ross with 1:09 remaining, and it looked as if MSU would not lose another close game like the South Alabama and BYU games. Having led MSU to seven straight wins over the Wildcats since 2009, it the first time Mullen's team had lost to UK.
BETTER TAKE NOTICE GAME:
Auburn’s 56-3 win over Arkansas shows the Tigers can rebound from their early season losses to Clemson and A&M. Look for Auburn to be a player in the SEC West in the month of November.
This week’s big game is in Jacksonville where Florida and Georgia will meet in the Gator Bowl. Other key games are Ole Miss hosting Auburn, South Carolina entertaining Tennessee, and Missouri hosting Kentucky. In non-league games, Mississippi State will host Samford while A&M meets New Mexico State. Alabama, LSU, Arkansas and Vandy will sit out this week’s play. USM will be hosting Marshall this Saturday.
The Picks
The Bulldogs will play a pretty good Samford team but should handle the Birmingham school in a high scoring affair. MSU wins, 48-27.
Auburn scored on their first play and really embarrassed a top 20 team in Arkansas. The Rebels could not stop the run last week. The old saying is that you have to stop the run and be able to run the football to be successful. Ole Miss is having a hard time doing either. Auburn 38, Ole Miss 24.
USM should be able to tame the Thundering Herd as they get back in C-USA action. USM 39, Marshall 13.
Week 9 picks
Kentucky 31, Missouri 24; Florida 21, Georgia 17; Tennessee 31, South Carolina 21; A&M 45, New Mexico State 14.
