The Enterprise Bulldogs hosted the Morton Panthers Friday night at L.J. Davis field to open up district play.
The game kicked off with an aggressive Bulldog defense which forced an early punt pinning Enterprise at the EHS 20. The Bulldogs found themselves on a fourth and short situation at the five yard line, but fought their way to first and goal. Junior Harris Burt capitalized on the first down as he threw a Panther off of his back for a touchdown and good PAT. The Bulldogs took a 7-0 lead, and a pair of punts ended the first quarter.
Early in the second, Morton picked off the Bulldogs, but Enterprise’s defense held strong, and the Panthers were unable to convert. With the ball back, Junior Jackarius Pickens stormed through the Panther defense for a massive touchdown run and good PAT. With only five minutes left in the second, Senior Trace Roy ran in for a touchdown and then kicked a good PAT. To finish off the half, Junior Jayce Gunn picked off the Panthers at the 40 yard line. Enterprise entered the half with a strong 21-0 lead over Morton.
After the half, the third quarter went scoreless as both defenses stayed strong.
As the fourth quarter started, Senior Parks Burt made his triumphant return to the gridiron with a mad dash to the outside for a touchdown, but the PAT was no good. The Bulldog defense held Morton short of a fourth down conversion. Enterprise took over and drove to the eight yard line with help from Trace Roy’s explosive run. Parks Burt capped off the drive with a touchdown run, but the PAT fell short. Morton fired back with a touchdown drive and a good PAT. Lined up in victory formation, Senior Cooper Galyean took the snap and kneels out the 33-7 win.
The Bulldogs have found their rhythm with a consistent high scoring offense and dominant defense. Enterprise opened up district play on the right foot and took the number one spot in 3A Region 5. The 6-0 Bulldogs takes a road trip to face the 4-2 Union Yellowjackets Friday at 7:30. Come out and support the Dawgs!
