LSU is in real trouble, and Texas A&M is for real. LSU has very little offense while the Aggies can play both offense and defense. South Carolina is not really good, and Auburn has a great field goal kicker. Many folks thought Georgia was overrated, and they were. People thought Ole Miss had a top SEC team, and they do when they take care of the pigskin. Alabama, A&M and Tennessee are the only undefeated teams left entering the fifth week of the season.
This week in SEC play, Bama hosts Kentucky, and A&M goes to South Carolina while Tennessee travels to Georgia. Two other key SEC games will be Missouri who will head to Baton Rouge while Vandy will host the Florida Gators. Mississippi State takes the week off before hosting Auburn.
The Rebels beat an undefeated Georgia team (45-14) for their most lopsided SEC win since the famous “hee-haw Kiner” game of 1969 against Tennessee (38-0). This week the Rebels will host Memphis in their Homecoming game. The Rebels will be ready for revenge after getting embarrassed at Memphis. Hugh Freeze did a masterful job in getting his team ready to play against Georgia after the second-half meltdown against Alabama. Ole Miss 38, Memphis 20.
USM won their conference opener by dominating Texas-El Paso in the Sun Bowl. This week the Eagles host winless Rice. The Eagles will shine again. USM 35, Rice 6.
Alabama 38, Kentucky 7; LSU 17, Missouri 13; Auburn 45, UL-Monroe 13; Texas A&M 24, South Carolina 10; Florida 21, Vandy 17; Arkansas 49, Alcorn 7; Tennessee 31, Georgia 17.
The Scribe bounced back to go 7-2 last week. He is now 35-10 on the season.
