In SEC play, Alabama showed why they are the best team in college football with a dominating performance against Tennessee. Other winners were Arkansas, Vanderbilt, LSU and Florida.
The take from week 7
Alabama and Texas A&M are the only unbeaten teams remaining in conference play. So after the half-way point of the season, we are down to two perfect teams. The good news is they play this week. So we will be down to one.
The most exciting game had to be the Ole Miss and Arkansas game. The Rebels could not hold on to a 3-point lead late in the game, losing to Arkansas for the third straight year. The Rebels had trouble stopping the run in the second half and could not stop the pass in the opening half.
BETTER TAKE NOTICE GAME:
LSU’s 45-10 win over USM shows the Tigers can rebound from the dismal situation surrounding Les Miles. Look for the Tigers to be a player in the SEC West.
This week’s big game is in Tuscaloosa when the nation’s best team plays host to the sixth-ranked Texas A&M Aggies. Other key games are Ole Miss heading to Baton Rouge; State traveling to Blue Grass Country, and Arkansas heading to the Plains. In non-league action, South Carolina will host UMass, Vandy plays at home for only the second time by hosting Tennessee State, and Middle Tennessee travels to Missouri. USM will be open before hosting Marshall in their Homecoming game on October 29.
The Picks
MSU will have their hands full in Lexington, Kentucky. The Wildcats will be ready to play after having an open date last week. The Bulldogs have some work to do on both sides of the ball but played a little better last week in their OT loss to BYU. Kentucky wins a close one, 34-27.
LSU made several big plays in rolling up 459 yards of offense despite running only 42 plays against USM last week. LSU has played without their best player the last week two weeks in Leonard Fournette but still rolled up over 40 points in each win. Ole Miss enters the game allowing almost 450 yards per game. LSU 31, Ole Miss 27.
Week 8 picks
Alabama 35, A&M 24; Middle Tennessee 21, Missouri 17; Vandy 27, Tennessee State 3; South Carolina 28, UMass 13; Auburn 31, Arkansas 21.
The Scribe for the second straight week was 4-2 but improved to 52-14 on the year.
