The Clarke County Chamber of Commerce is responsible for multiple things in the county, including some that many are not aware of, such as scholarships and tourism. In order to support the different projects and businesses in the county, they sponsor various fundraisers throughout the year.
One thing that they need in order to help the fundraisers work is volunteers.
“It’s hard to get volunteers,” explained Chamber Secretary Dianne Holloman. “People are just busy all the time. There’s just a satisfaction that I believe people would have if they really get involved and help.”
One of the biggest fundraisers the Chamber does, Clarke Fest, will soon take place, and they need multiple volunteers to help it go smoothly.
“Right now, we’re working on Clarke Fest,” continued Dianne. “We do need volunteers for that. We’ll have a Chamber pavilion set up, and planning on doing ice cream. We’ll need volunteers for that and to help set up, sell drinks, clean up, and do anything else that needs to be done. Some of this stuff is done on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. The more volunteers we have the more things I think we could do.”
Volunteers are also needed to make other events take place, such as the Clarke County Christmas Parade and Souper Bowl.
Anyone is able to volunteer to make the fundraisers a success and in turn help the county. Volunteers are able to choose what they would like to help with, whether it is one event or multiple events. In order to volunteer, simply contact the Chamber of Commerce Tuesday-Thursday at 601-776-5701 or go by the office at the Train Depot in Quitman to sign up for a job.
