Lucille Goldman has officially celebrated a full century of laughs, love, fun, and adventure in her life.
Born on July 11, 1926, she has witnessed a great deal of change and growth in our country and community, and it is truly a blessing for her to experience a great milestone that not many are able to achieve: turning 100.
Out of everything she experienced over the past century, the thing that stands out the most in her life is her family. She loves her family and has always had a profound impact on them.
“She’s my mother, but she’s also my best friend,” declared her daughter, Cathy Haguewood. “I could always talk to her about things I couldn’t talk to anyone else about.”
The advice she has provided over the years still resonates in the minds of her children.
“One thing I remember was when I was going through a lot and had a lot on me, she would always tell me that the Lord won’t put more on you than you can stand,” continued Cathy.
Over the years, she has been able to make many great memories.
“One of her favorite things that she loved to do is fish,” proclaimed Cathy. “She would fish all day if she could. She loved to fish and cook fish. She would spend many days fishing and then come home and clean and cook them. She and my husband would fish a lot together. They’d go to the lake down here and get in a boat. We always loved to shop. We would always get together and just go shopping. She was also a real hard worker. She worked in the yard and also loved to cook. She was never too tired to cook biscuits for my brother-in-law. If he ever came to the house hungry, she’d go cook him up some biscuits and have some syrup ready to go with it. She was just never too tired to help someone.”
Her cooking was something to truly be remembered. Along with classic recipes she was known for making, she was also known for spending time with her children whenever she would get the chance.
“Other than fishing, one of her other favorite things to do was cook and bake,” declared her oldest daughter, Joyce Barry. “Her famous fruitcake was always a big hit with family and friends. She would always enjoy coming to Lucedale and visiting with our family.”
Anyone who has been privileged to interact with her over the years will always fondly recall her vibrant smile and spunky nature that could brighten the day of those around her.
