Anytime you are raised by parents with hearts to serve, you find yourself wanting to help and serve others. From home to church, military service to now, service has been part of my lifestyle. I appreciate the Clarke County communities that I have had the honor of serving. No matter what the platform, my heart is always filled with a caring spirit to serve. That is why it is with much prayer, conversation, and the blessings of my husband and family that I officially announce my candidacy for Clarke County Chancery Clerk. I ask for your support, your prayers, and your vote.
Lynnita Bartee is the daughter of Charlie Lawson, Sr. and the late Ruby Lawson and is the daughter-in-law of Emmitt Bartee and the late Betty Bartee. She is a 1989 graduate of Baker High School located in Mobile, Alabama. During her high school years, Lynnita was a flag girl in the marching band, office assistant, and she was in all advanced classes. Upon graduation, Lynnita attended Bishop State Community College where she studied Mortuary Science. During her time in college, she was presented by the Athenian Social Club as a Debutante and voted “Miss Congeniality” by her debutante peers.
Lynnita left college in 1991 and enrolled in the United States Air Force. Her first assignment was in Misawa, Japan, as a Photographic Apprentice. During her time in Japan, Lynnita attended Airman Leadership School, where she received the John L. Levitow Award, the highest award given. While in Misawa, she attended Maryland University. During her photography years in Japan, Lynnita was awarded Airman of the Quarter, Airman of the Year, and Airman of the Year in Pacific Air Force Command. After leaving Misawa, she was assigned to Langley Air Force Base, Virginia. During her time at Langley, she was in charge of several offices within Visual Information, to include the following: Customer Service, Studio, Production, and Quality Control. After 9/11, Lynnita was deployed to Masirah Island in Oman, in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, for 169 days. After returning to Langley, she applied and was selected as a Military Training Leader at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, MS.
Upon arrival at Keesler, Lynnita received her Bachelor and Master degree in Human Resource Management. During her tenure as a Military Training Leader, she was awarded the Military Training Leader of the Quarter, and she was promoted to the office of Senior Military Training Leader, then onto Chief Military Training Leader. After serving as a Military Training Leader for five years, Lynnita applied and was selected as an instructor at the Non-Commissioned Officer Academy. She served as an instructor for six years. Courses included Drill and Ceremony, Military Ethics, Human Relations, Military Leadership, Military Communication/Speech Skills, National Security and several other courses.
After serving as an instructor, Lynnita was selected to work at the Office of Information Protection. She was later promoted to Chief of Information Protection. This office was responsible for completion of security clearances for all military, civilians, and contracted individuals. This process included fingerprinting and background checks, and validating entry on military facilities.
After serving 21 years and six months in the military, Lynnita retired as a Master Sergeant. Upon retirement, she moved to her husband’s hometown of Quitman, MS. She served as the Deputy Clerk and Water Clerk for the City of Quitman. After five years of working for the mayor, she became a Gas Clerk at Chickasawhay Natural Gas. She was promoted to Office Manager for Chickasawhay Natural Gas District, located in Quitman and Waynesboro.
Lynnita is active within the community. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for United Way; President (2022)/Past President (2023) of the Clarke County Chamber of Commerce; President of the P-16 Council; Organizer of the Clarke County Community Service Group; Co-Founder of Blossoming Young Ladies; Organizer of the Citizens of ArchUSA Group; Organizer of the Clarke County Mardi Gras Committee; Clarke County Family Advocacy Council Board Member; and Economic Development Committee Board Member. Lynnita mentors two elementary students through the Quitman School District Connect Mentoring program; she also tutors local college students. Lynnita attends the Pearlie Grove Baptist Church where she serves as the Women’s Ministry Coordinator. She coordinates quarterly “Giveaways”, gathering and giving free household items, clothes, shoes, furniture, etc. to individuals within the local community. Lynnita received recognition and appreciation for her remarkable service to people in the community during an MLK Candle Light Vigil hosted by The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Committee, was recently selected as the Quitman Junior High Parent of the Year, and named as the Quitman School District Parent of the Year.
Lynnita is married to the Honorable Judge Tobey L. Bartee; together, they have five children, one deceased, and eight grandchildren.
