Big changes have taken place at Nurse Practitioner House Calls on Main Street in Quitman. After being open for a few years in the business, Wendell Carney decided the time had come to sell the clinic.
He has been very thankful for the support the community has demonstrated since he first opened the practice, but he wanted to focus on one specific area.
“The original premise was to do house calls, and the community has been super supportive. I appreciate the support of the county. They’ve been good to us,” proclaimed Wendell. “It just got to a point I felt like I was stretched thin and wasn’t doing justice to either. My original intent was to be a point of access for those who were otherwise unable to access the system. That’s why I decided to keep my house calls.”
He made sure that the clinic was sold to someone he is confident will do a great job; also, the original staff that patients are accustomed to seeing will still work there.
“We sold to Mark DeLoach who is a physician,” explained Wendell. “He is from the Laurel area, and I worked with him during 2014-15 when we moved back from Atlanta. He has branched out, and now he has a series of several clinics. I felt like it was a good fit, and we first talked about a year ago. Things kind of just fell into place. Our staff stayed the same. Jake is still over there seeing patients. They’ll still do walk-ins and still do the primary care services we did before. I do encourage all my patients to stay. Jake is a fine clinician.”
The new name of the clinic will be known as DeLoach Family Medicine.
As for Wendell, he will maintain NP House Calls from a different location.
“I took a few staff members, and we have an offsite location at 109 East Donald for our house calls,” informed Wendell. “We will continue to build that patient network there, and we will work harmoniously with the clinic as well. I still plan to do ER work as well.”
While he will be conducting and focusing on house calls for patients, it is important for people to understand that there are qualifications that must be met in order for insurance to cover house calls.
“You have to qualify for your insurance to cover house calls,” explained Wendell. “There has to be a medical necessity or reason why you need to use house calls. People can call us and see if they qualify or not.”
