JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi State Treasurer David McRae today commended the State Legislature and Governor Tate Reeves for establishing the Mississippi Work and Save program, noting that the Treasury stands ready to implement the initiative.
“The Work and Save program will be a gamechanger for Mississippians,” Treasurer McRae said. “Small and independent businesses are the backbone of our economy, but many lack the resources to offer comprehensive retirement benefits. This program creates a clear, practical pathway to help more Mississippians save for their future. I appreciate Senator Walter Michel and Representative Jody Steverson for their leadership in advancing this legislation, and I thank Governor Reeves for signing it into law.”
Under the newly signed legislation, the Mississippi Work and Save program is expected to launch in 2027 and will be administered by the State Treasury. The program will establish a public-private partnership designed to expand access to retirement savings options for gig workers, employees of small businesses, and self-employed individuals across the state.
The program’s framework draws in part from the success of Mississippi College and Career Savings, which has been recognized as one of the nation’s top education savings programs.
