The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) extends its appreciation to everyone who celebrated Independence Day at Mississippi State Parks during this year's America 250 celebrations.
Throughout the holiday weekend, Mississippi State Parks hosted signature America 250 events featuring live entertainment, fireworks, family-friendly activities, and outdoor recreation. The celebrations welcomed more than 20,000 visitors and brought communities together to celebrate America's 250th birthday while showcasing the natural beauty and recreational opportunities found throughout Mississippi State Parks.
“This celebration was about more than fireworks and festivities. It was about bringing people together, creating lasting memories, and celebrating 250 years of our nation's history in some of Mississippi's most beautiful places.” said Brian Ferguson, Chief of Staff, MDWFP. "We're especially proud of the dedicated employees across our state park system. Months of planning, long hours, and a genuine commitment to serving others made this weekend possible. Their hard work was evident in every event held across the state."
"A year ago, this was simply an idea," said Kristin Hines, MDWFP’s State Park Event Coordinator. "Seeing that vision come to life across the state and watching families celebrate together made it all worthwhile."
MDWFP looks forward to welcoming visitors back to Mississippi State Parks throughout the remainder of the summer for even more fun in the great outdoors! Adventure is closer than you think with fun activities ranging from disc golf to pickleball, kayaking, and fishing. Beat the heat with our pools, splash zones, lakeside swim areas, and more.
