Melvin Mickey Lewis, 82, of Quitman, Mississippi, passed away on September 28, 2025, surrounded by his family in Tupelo, MS.
Mickey was born on September 7, 1943, to Floyd and Sallie (Robinson) Lewis in Quitman, MS.
Mickey began his career at James River Corporation as an Industrial Mechanic in the early 1960’s. He quickly became known for his mechanical expertise and his ability to fix just about anything, which earned him the respect of his co-workers. Beyond his professional life, Mickey’s heart belonged to the Great Smokey Mountains. His love for the mountains was matched only by his devotion to his family. Mickey was known around Quitman for his “joy rides” around town in his infamous “red truck.” He enjoyed his rides several times a day, keeping up with his neighbors, and the goings around town.
Mickey was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, and brother. He was our “go-to” when things got rough. Always someone we could count on, he gave us 110%. He was the backbone to our family, and we will miss him dearly.
Mickey is survived by his two daughters, Lisa (Mike Johnston) Downing and Tammy (Rodney) Knight; four grandchildren, Brandon Downing, Kasey Herrington, Justin Knight, and Ashley Downing; six great-grandchildren, Layken Herrington, Landen Herrington, Leilah Herrington, Jackson Knight, Presley Knight, and Kaison Kamp; brother, Rick Lewis; and several extended family members.
Mickey was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Melvin Lewis, his mother, Sallie Mae Lewis, and his former wife, Nayoka Buzek Givens.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery (Quitman, MS) with Rev. Dennis Coats officiating.
