The First Baptist Church in Quitman will host the Mississippi Baptist Singing Churchwomen in concert this Sunday, April 12, starting at 6:00 p.m.
The Mississippi Baptist Singing Churchwomen is a group of 75 women from all over Mississippi. The group consists of women in leadership positions in the church. Though not all ladies in the group are able to attend each concert, you will see some familiar faces. Judy Holifield, Cissi Majure, Mona Odom, and Molly Sorto are a part of the group.
Mona Odom stated, “The first concert I attended was here, and that was maybe in 2014. I was able to worship so much just by listening and attending the concert that I wanted to be a part of that worship. I wanted to be part of it because it’s such a blessing to get up there and sing with such talented ladies that you know are not just people from your home church. They’re people from all over the state, and you have a like-minded ability and willingness to worship together. We’re not just up there singing a concert; we’re worshiping right along with everybody else.”
They meet once a year in August at a conference and make plans for the two concerts they host each year. This year, First Baptist Church in Quitman was selected to host one of the concerts. There is a committee that selects where the concerts will be held to make sure they are not in the same area.
They will sing 12 songs, Cissi Majure and Joette Smith will be doing an instrumental prelude where both of them are sitting at the piano, and they will take up a love offering to assist with different mission trips that they plan to go on.
Admission to the concert is free, and they would love for everyone to come and enjoy worshiping with them.
