Quitman First Methodist Church will host a special musical event on Sunday, June 22, at 5:00 p.m. as Mobile’s Singing Children (MSC) make their final stop on their summer tour.
This concert will be especially meaningful, as it marks the final performance under the direction of longtime Artistic Director Susan Hoitt, who is retiring this year. Susan has deep ties to the Quitman community—she grew up in Quitman First Methodist Church, where her mother, Maudine Kramer Fettinger, once served as choir director. Continuing the legacy, Susan’s daughter, Katie Hoitt, will step into the role of Artistic Director this fall.
Based in Mobile, Alabama, and founded in 1977, MSC is made up of four choirs. The Quitman performance will feature the premier Concert Choir and the elite ensemble Encore!, consisting of 26 talented singers ranging from fifth grade through high school. The group has performed across the country and regularly appears with the Mobile Symphony and Mobile Opera.
The evening’s program will include a beautiful mix of sacred and secular works, featuring selections such as Franz Biebl’s Ave Maria, Caldwell and Ivory’s Hope for Resolution, as well as traditional spirituals and gospel favorites.
The community is warmly invited to attend what promises to be a moving and memorable evening of music.
