On October 6, the Chancery Court heard and made a ruling on the BTH case involving the City of Quitman.
After hearing all sides regarding the City of Quitman’s renewed motion to release some undisputed funds that were owed to it, the court ruled to “grant the City’s motion.”
According to the ruling, “The City of Quitman is entitled to $209,735.08 of the funds held in the registry of the Court, plus any interest that has accrued on the same since being so deposited.”
It was determined that a check for the funds owed to the City of Quitman should be released to the city attorney on October 30. In compliance with the court decision, the City was sent a check for $212,789.79.
Although the City of Quitman has been granted its funds and progress has been made, there is still a question about whether the remaining money should go to the Board of Supervisors or to Quitman School District.
